I made this portrait of a Uyghur man sharing emotional stories in old Kashgar, an important city during the days of the Silk Road and continues to be today but the landscape is changing. The oldest sections of this ancient city have been now torn down by Chinese authorities. Regarded by many as the best preserved example of a traditional Islamic city in Central Asia, ittâ;âs is now 85% demolished.
